Will be held during period 2 in the second week of February. Your class will be notified by the grad committee about your assembly date.

Here is the key information you need to know about all things graduation, including the ceremony at Pearson Convention Centre on Wednesday, June 29 at 4 p.m. (grads should be there by 3 p.m.).

 





Graduation Fees 2017 

A fee of $80 will be collected the week of Monday. April 3rd to Friday, April 7th

Fees will we collected on all three lunches in the Library

Course Description:

History of Sports and Society:

Grade 11, Open (IDC3O)

This course explores the historical impact of sport upon society. It examines individual sports figures such as Wayne Gretzky, Lionel Messi, Michael Jordan, Christine Sinclair, Tom Longboat, Fanny Rosenfeld and Maurice Richard. The course analysis their contributions to athletics and their influence on society. Students will explore the origins of the Olympics, the effect of athletic events on politics and sports’ relationships to class, gender, leisure and race. Students will trace the link from amateur sports to professional sports and the impact of business upon sports. The course will examine the evolution, development and philosophical changes in sport.

Civics and Citizenship, Grade 10, Open CHV2O

This course explores rights and responsibilities associated with being an active citizen in a democratic society. Students will explore issues of civic importance such as healthy schools, community planning, environmental responsibility, and the influence of social media, while developing their understanding of the role of civic engagement and of political processes in the local, national, and/or global community. Students will apply the concepts of political thinking and the political inquiry process to investigate, and express informed opinions about, a range of political issues and developments that are both of significance in today’s world and of personal interest to them.

GRADE 9/ 10 FOOD AND NUTRITION
HFN 1O/ 2O (OPEN)


This course focuses on guidelines for making nutritious food choices. Students will investigate factors that influence food choices, including beliefs, attitudes, current trends, traditional eating patterns, food-marketing strategies, and individual needs. Students will also explore the environmental impact of a variety of food choices at the local and global level. This course provides students with opportunities to develop food-preparation skills and introduces them to the use of social science research methods in the area of food and nutrition.

GRADE 11 LIVING AND WORKING WITH INFANTS AND YOUNG CHILDREN
HPW3C1 (COLLEGE PREPARATION)


This course focuses on the well-being of children in families and community settings. Students study child behavior and child development in the context of relationships with parents and others in the community. They learn through research and by observing and interacting with children. This course prepares students for further study of children and familiarizes them with occupational opportunities related to working with children. It introduces them to skills used in researching and investigating children’s development.

GRADE 11 UNDERSTANDING FASHION
HNC3C1 (COLLEGE PREP)


This course explores what clothing communicates about the wearer and how it becomes a creative and entrepreneurial outlet through the design and production processes. Students will learn, through practical experiences, about the nature of fashion design; the characteristics of fibres and fabrics; the construction, production, and marketing of clothing; and how to plan and care for a wardrobe that is appropriate for an individual’s appearance, activities, employment, and lifestyle. Students will develop research skills as they explore the evolution of fashion and its relationship to society, culture, and individual psychology.

This course prepares students for occupations involving school-age children and adolescents. Students will study a variety of theories about child behavior and development, and will have opportunities for research and observation and for practical experiences with older children. Students will become familiar with occupational opportunities and requirements related to working with older children and adolescents. GRADE 12 THE WORLD OF FASHION
HNB4M1 (UNIVERSITY / COLLEGE PREP)


This course provides a historical perspective on fashion and design, exploring the origins, influence, and importance of fashion as an expression of national, cultural, religious, and personal identity. Students will learn about the many facets of the Canadian fashion industry, including both large-scale and small entrepreneurial enterprises, and its worldwide links, as well as gaining practical experience in garment design, production, and care. This course also refines students’ skills used in researching and investigating various aspects of the fashion industry.

Earn a Business Certificate of Concentration when you graduate! 

To qualify:
  • students must complete a minimum of 6 Business Studies courses with a minimum grade point average of 60%;
  • at least 4 courses must be coded with a "B" (i.e., BTT, BBI, BAF, etc.)
  • 2 of the following courses may be eligible:
    • Grade 11 and/or Grade 12 Economics
    • 1 Interdisciplinary Business Credit (ex. Sports Marketing)
    • 1 Business Related Cooperative Education Credi
    • 1 English (EBT 40) Business Communication Credit
